Do we Take Jesus Seriously? And it came to pass, that, as the people pressed upon Him to hear the Word of God, he stood by the lake of Gennesaret, And saw two ships standing by the lake: but the fishermen were gone out of them, and were washing their nets. And He entered into one of the ships, which was Simon's and prayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land. And He sat down, and taught the people out of the ship. Now when He had left speaking, He said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught. And Simon answering said unto Him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at Thy Word I will let down the net. And when they had this done, they enclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake. And they beckoned unto their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink. When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord. For he was astonished, and all that were with him, at the draught of the fishes which they had taken. And so also was James and John, the sons of Zebedee, which were partners with Simon. And Jesus said unto Simon, fear not; from henceforth thou shalt catch men. And when they had brought their ships to land, they forsook all, and followed Him.I find it amazing observing people in this day and time how people no longer take Jesus and His teachings seriously. They look at Him & His Word as irrelevant. They'll say; "These are the 90's", or "Things are different now", or "Things aren't like they used to be in the old days." This attitude has caused folks, both in and outside of the church, to take Christ & His Word for granted. Look into yourself for a moment; ask yourself; Has Christ become a relic or a symbol that we respect, but no longer take seriously? Is He like a museum piece, or a piece of china that we put on, or take off the shelf as needed? Has He only historical value, but no impact on your life? Have we reduced the Son of God to a "visiting relative" that's nice to see once a year but more than that is a bother? If so--and you've answered yes to any of these questions, then it's far time that you took a real close look at yourself, your life, and your relationship with Christ, the Lord. The Lord Jesus took everyone of us seriously when He considered the cross. While He hung there in total humiliation, he took us and our filthy sins seriously--without uttering a word of complaint, He died for each and everyone of us. It's up to us to accept Him as personal Lord and Savior. Stop taking our Lord for granted, and start taking Him seriously. It's not too late. Open your heart to Him--He's standing at the door of your heart knocking, waiting for you to let Him in (Rev 3:20)!
